New ballet score is finished— "EVERYWHERE WE GO" — commissioned by New York City Ballet. Choreography by Justin Peck. Music by yours truly. May 8, 22, 28, 31. Nine movements for orchestra (and piano). Ballet is real.

Maybe it’s an effect of living your life online — that you also want these physical things.

Tom Nissley, who used to work for Amazon and now owns a small bookstore in Seattle. He’s a part of the movement of small, local shops gaining ground once again even in the face of Amazon.

It’s a slightly better sentiment than “books as art”.

Whoever writes the update ‘What’s New’ summaries for the Bandcamp app just keep up the good work! Am baffled by all the science and tech speak but find it very funny - the effort is much appreciated compared to other apps (as the contrast between the two in the bottom screengrab shows : )) ..

BROADCASTING BEAUTIFUL VIEWS 24 HOURS A DAY: YOU’RE TUNED TO THE SCENERY CHANNEL

by Michelle Said

When I was 15 years old, my best friend Melissa and I wrote letters to our future selves at 25. Would we be married, would we have children? Where would we live? At that point in our lives, 25…

We’re only one year away. Egads.

When you feel you are on a wrong-headed path, the quickest way to get where you want to go is to turn around, head back, and start again from the point you went askew. And so I did.

I returned simply to the things, which have always brought me some measure of understanding, peace, and movement. I began to write and play music without “motive” or “goal” or end result in mind. The way that I wrote when I first began. There was no cartoon light bulb over my head or kitchen timer dinging to let me know I had gotten somewhere. With the stuff that matters there rarely is I suppose. But after months and months and months (and more bottles of beer and bowls of tobacco than I’d care to disclose), I felt like a necessary distance had been traversed.
