Lucky Three: An Elliott Smith Portrait
“11-minute short film featuring Elliott Smith playing acoustic songs. Directed by Jem Cohen, the film was recorded October 17-20, 1996 in Portland, Oregon, and released in 1997.”
Ten years ago today, the world lost one of its very best songwriters. This short film, “Lucky Three”, captures him at his very best. Just a year later, two of these songs would be featured in Good Will Hunting, and 18 months from the time this was shot, he’d be on stage at the Academy Awards, holding hands with Trisha Yearwood and Celine Dion after playing his Oscar-nominated song, "Miss Misery". Because life can be very, very strange.
And now, somehow, he’s already been gone for ten years.
We still miss you like crazy, Elliott.
